I really struggled with putting this video out for you all so it's a bit late to the party, but I want to be as open about my PCT experience as I can manage, especially with those who have followed me and have been so supportive of me and my hikes over the years. I'm happy I finally decided to close the chapter on this season though and am already making plans to finish the sections of the trai...

Perfect, good job!
Congratulations, really smart utilization of your space, I'm super impressed, I've got 5+ years, but you just made me look like a newbie. You've got madd organizational skills and a good eye for interior decorating. Maybe I just need a womans touch. 😂 I'm 30 minutes away from the southern starting point of the PCT ;-) You both did an amazing job!
Very ice. I have a 2004 duraangothat I'm considering converting. Thanks for the inspiration. 😊
Immaculate
thank you 🙏
This is such a fun section. Thanks for sharing!
Agreed!! Thank you for watching! 😊
Just subbed! Btw, Tracy were you the once that sells spicy jerky way back in the day?? It was AMAZING!
Hi! Sorry for the late response and thank you for the sub. No, that wasn't me selling jerky. I dehydrate some things but that is one thing I have yet to try 😊
How are you??? Hope all is well. Do you have any plans on doing the PCT in 2025??
Thank you so much for checking in on me 🙏🩷 I was planning to hike the PCT in 2025 and was moving in that direction with plans sna savings when my husband's unexpected lay off from his job this Summer put a huge twist in things. I'm trying to raise enough money to help pay bills and save for a hike next season so let's see how it goes. Hubby had some good job prospects that he's working on. The trail is definitely part of my life and not a day goes by I don't think about being back out there. Wish me luck!!! 🩷
Such bad timing...sorry about his job. You need to move out here to the west coast, if I remember right your son lives out in the PNW somewhere...give you more of a chance to see that grandkid and the trail would pretty much be in your backyard. Hope you can get back on the trail next year
Wow 🤩 so beautiful! Thanks for sharing! 👍👏👏🌲🚙❤️💐
Thank you!! 🙏🌻
This is a great build! Using the space between the walls you built and the walls of the SUV as storage, will act as insulation.
Thanks so much! I appreciate that 😊
🙋🏽♀️Hiiiiiiii I’m new here and I just wanted to say thank you for sharing beautiful and that you’ve done such an INCREDIBLE job on your van👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽👍🏽. Be safe out there on those highways and byways 🙏🏽✌🏽
Awww thank you so much! You're so sweet 🤗 I'm looking forward to using this again when the weather cools down and I have the time. All the best ! 🩷🌻
I love the faux shiplap! I’m going to try that in my build too 😁
It's such an easy and impactful upgrade to make the space feel homey! Make sure the corners get extra love while installing. Mine peeled back over time. Good luck!!
Got me a Durango. Thinking bout doing this the rest of the year to save up to own my own food truck. Gotta live like no other today so I can live like no other tomorrow
You can do it!! I know so many do, definitely some learning curves but it sounds like it might be worth it for you. Good luck to you and go after those goals!! 🙏🙌
@@TikiBirdTracythank you!
How do you like the Garmin? What does the "In Reach" mean? Do you need some kind of subscription as well? I'm thinking of buying one.
I love it! I would never hike the backcountry without it. Yes, Garmin has a subscription but you can choose which plan works best for you. The inReach pairs with the App Earthmate so you can type messages from your phone too. Pricey but worth the peace of mind, and it’s compact and pretty light.
I plan to do some primitive camping out there.
Me too! Just waiting for the Fall temps 😅
@@TikiBirdTracy for sure
I’m planning on doing exactly this with my black lab in late September for my 40th birthday. (One of 4 stops on a week-ish long road trip around TX) Taking notes. I’ve backpacked before, but I love seeing what to expect when Sirius and I get out there.
That sounds like a great trip. Hopefully the weather won’t be quite as hot in late Sept but it can be up until about late Oct. Thank you for watching! 😃🌻
That was a nice and chill hike.
How are you shuttling your car around?
We both parked at the Warner Springs Comm. Center. You can call them to get permission. Ghost picked us up there and drove us to Campo.
Sad to see this hike end so quickly, but that's what a section hike does (I'm so used to seeing you hike for months!). What i really enjoy in your videos is the attention to the flora and fauna, as well as the detail views of different spots along the trail. I hope you make it up here to Oregon someday, maybe I'll still be driving and can provide some trail magic at the time. In the meantime, looking forward to your upcoming adventures wherever they may be 😊
Thanks so much for always being so supportive of my hikes. It was weird to stop and not keep going when I was feeling so good out there. I most definitely will be hiking Oregon in the future. I would love to finally meet you up there. Wasn’t there mention of pie?! 😄 I’ll keep you all posted on my upcoming plans. Have a great Summer. 🤗🌻🩷
@@TikiBirdTracy Yep, pie in berry season! Stopping while you felt so good is a good thing, makes for a faster recovery. I'll be watching for updates 🙂
Music was a nice touch. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for watching! 🤗🌻
Atta girl Tracy. The desert is starting to grow on me I've seen it SO many times over the years. I guess because I live in a desert it's just hard for me to really appreciate.
Thank you for following along! On to the next. 🤗🌻
It was so nice to relive Section A. I regret not doing the next stretch to PVC last year as I would have gotten to experience Mary's Place.😢. Glad those mice didn't do any more damage, and I'm guessing you're going to go for a thru next year? I've been pondering my next move as well since this year was a blowout for me. We just did a road trip up the 395 and drove out to Kennedy Meadows for a night. I've got the itch... Looking forward to hear what you've got up your sleeve for 2024.🌻💛
It was sad walking by Mary’s place, it felt more empty without her special place no longer there. We just didn’t feel like going down to the Little Bear Hostel this time around but I saw the turn off. Next time I will try to visit there. I know they’re trying hard to fill that void in the area and are doing a great job. I can understand the desire to go visit the trail and so happy you got to be around other hiker trash. The PCT just keeps calling us back, like a siren 😅 Take care of yourself and get back out there!!! 🌸🩷🤗
@@TikiBirdTracy Thank you! 😘
At the 100 mile mark did I hear you say "See you next year?"😁 So sorry about the mouse incident. I hope there's no lasting damage. 🙏
This is incredible. I’m trying to see if I can do this set up in my 2015 Traverse.
I hope you can make it work for you. I want to make a new video showing the set up, step by step. I have a Tahoe now but it all still fit in that as well. 🤗
🎉BRAVO !!! 🎉 Job well done! Enjoyed all of your vlogs & look forward to hearing about your hiking plans for 2025! Thanks for sharing with us!
Thank you! You’re so much appreciated and thank you for following along! 🤗🌻
Hurray! My summer "must watch" is back! As someone close to your age, I really enjoy seeing your progress and appreciate how you explain your thought processes. I have a question: Do you have to register with the PCT in some official way to do a section hike? All the best to you on your adventures this summer!
Aww, thank you! That’s so sweet. No, you do not have to register with the PCTA but on their page they list the areas that would require a local permit. So depending on the area you hike, you may or may not need one. The long-distance permit is great for thru-hikers because it covers all of these listed with just one permit. Have a fun Summer ahead! 🌻🤗 www.pcta.org/discover-the-trail/permits/local-permits/
@@TikiBirdTracy Thanks so much for the info! Meanwhile I'll live vicariously through your adventures.
❤😊, Thank you for taking us along on your journey. I absolutely love that portion of the PCT. I still need to hike from Burnt Ranchera to Pioneer Mail and Paradise Caffe to Saddle Junction to connect my foot steps from 2014.. Obligations and the loss of my soul mate and resupply King have made it hard, to get back out there. I really want to connect my foot steps from the fires and other closures and finish my last 69 miles of California... Thank you for taking us along on your journey. 😊
I’m so sorry about the loss of your loved one..I can’t imagine 😪 I hope you will make your wish come true and start planning your section hikes. You can do it!! 🙏🤗🩷
@@TikiBirdTracy Thank you, We were married over 36 years. He did not wilderness backpack, but supported my backpacking from home. We reared two wonderful young adults together. I really miss his support and since of humor. At least he did not suffer through a long illness and he could do the things he wanted right up to 30 hours before he left this earthly experience for eternal life. I am truly thankful for the years we had together. I feel lucky to have had a love like ours, not everyone gets that.
Thank you for taking us along! Always enjoy your videos. You have a good eye for scenery
Thank you 🩷 I plan to improve the way I film and edit so hopefully they will get better. Working on that for my future videos. I appreciate having you along and always being so supportive. 🤗🩷🌻
I enjoyed watching your videos, same as always, except I worried less about you because you had a buddy the whole time…please keep doing that! And I sensed that you were more relaxed and upbeat…but that could be due to editing 🤣
Thanks Pat 🩷 I had a great time hiking with a partner for this section, and with all the time I’ve spent backpacking, I’m getting more and more confident with my abilities and the planning so I’m a bit more relaxed. I felt that way when I hiked last season as well. It does get easier. I do love hiking alone too though. They are both different experiences for sure, but after 2000+ miles I’ve done backpacking and 80% of that by myself, I still really love solo hiking and try to stay as safe and conservative as possible. But I do hope to find a good trail family for future thru hikes to have that experience also. It’s very difficult to find someone that can afford the time, hike at a similar pace, and of course, someone I like to hike around that I can plan the logistics with and who shares the same ideology surrounding the hike. Lots more trailing ahead…👏🥳🤗🩷
Good trip, Tracy. Thanks for the videos.
Thank you for following along. On to the next…🥳🤗
Great job condor.....enjoyed the section hike.....looking forward to the next adv......stay safe !!!!

@Jimbo-pm1dp I am not enjoying this Summer 😂🥵 It's extra humid from all the rain in July along with the heat. Looking forward to Fall weather... for us, is end of October 🎃 Hope you're doing well!!! 🩷
@@TikiBirdTracy Same here....humidity is almost as bad as Amazon jungle....hard on the horses and all the little pets to. Saw one of the big cats standing there panting a week ago....take care !!
I enjoyed following along on your adventure this year. Looking forward to what you're planning for next 2025. I was able to relive parts of my 2023 section hike through you. This year, starting 4/11, I was able to connect footsteps for all of Southern California that I was unable to access in March of 23". It's hard to say, "I'll be back again!" when getting off the PCT. I think of it every day. Wishing you a quick transition from the trail to the other reality of day to day life. We are fortunate to be able to pursue the dream of the hiking the PCT in whatever way we can. Take care.
Thank you for following along. It was a compact hike but still so much happened in that time. Congratulations on completing your steps in the desert🥳👏!! That’s a big accomplishment. I’m already excited to get back out there hiking again and also think about it constantly, but I need to wait and be patient. I’m already preparing the body though so I’ll be in shape when it’s go time!! 🤗🩷🌻
I truly believe section hikes are the way to go, no stressing and still a great hiking experience. So happy you had a great partner to enjoy it with. Excited to hear about your future plans, it’s such a joy sharing these adventures with you. Thank you Condor, you are soooo appreciated. 🙏🏻🥰👏🏻
Thank you, Anita! You are such a great motivator with your kind and inspiring words. I appreciate you following along on my crazy adventures. I’m ready for the next…but need to be patient 😬🤣 Love you my friend! 😘

Nice to see you back on the trail. Thanks for the videos.
Thank you! I’m so happy I made the trip out there. I needed a PCT fix and had a great time, but it’s just never enough. I’ll be back and keep trekking North! Thank you for your support of my adventures and following along. 🤗🩷
Great job! PVC is my favorite. Can’t wait to see your next adventure.
Thank you, Susan! I really appreciate you following along and always so supportive and kind. On to the next adventure!!! 🤗🩷
The cactus blooms were beautiful. Nice hiking.
Thank you! There are always beautiful things to appreciate if you take the time to look around out there. It’s different each time I’ve hiked through there. Pretty amazing! 🩷🌸🌵
The weather seemed mostly good. We’re you happy with your start date and when was it. It’s always sad when I reach the end of the trail too. Happy trails.
We started on April 25th. It was just fine for this two week stretch but I definitely like to start earlier in the season if thru hiking as the other desert areas North would be very warm by the time I would have got to them leaving at end of April. End of March - Early April is ideal for me. Our weather was mostly perfect on our trip. I’m ready to get back to hiking but, alas, responsibilities 😏😁! Thank you for following along! 🤗🌻
Nice trail videos! Congrats to you both.
Thank you, Patti! I’m ready for my next hike already…too bad I have to wait for the next one but I know how fast the time flies by. 🤗🩷🌻
What section you doing?
We hiked Mile 0 to Paradise Valley Cafe at Mile 151.8. If you look in my “Playlists” section, I have all 6 videos from this section hike in order there.
@@TikiBirdTracy yes im doing section too. See you next time on your journey. Good luck. 🍀
Hiking in Oregon this year ?
Ah, it's so beautiful 😍 is Mikes Place still a thing? Heard they closed it a couple years ago?
Come back!! Let’s go! 🤗🩷 Yes, Mike is still allowing hikers in but no caretakers seem to be there any longer. He keeps the water tank filled too which is invaluable to us hikers in this dry stretch. I hope he’s able to maintain this for many more years. Going to be tough when he decides to close 🥲
Thanks for the videos. I'd like to combo part of a PCT trip with a California Riding and Hiking Trail backpacking trip. PVC would be the turnaround point. Since the trails cross in several places, a series of loop trips would solve the auto logistics.
That sounds like it would be a lot of fun, and I’m sure a lot of planning taking a horse along. I hope you make this happen and let me know how it goes. Thank you for following along and for all the helpful plant ID’s and other info. 🙏🩷
@@TikiBirdTracy Hehe. No horses, just walking.
@@stevenvarner9806 California Riding and Hiking Trail also in Joshua Tree NP. Huge, uncompleted project though complete in JTNP
@@jhonyermo It was complete through most of southern California, large sections of the western Sierra, and encircling the San Francisco Bay. The section in JTNP is actually one of several feeder trails to the CRHT, not the main trail. In San Diego a feeder trail goes from Borrego Springs through Culp Valley, Grapevine Canyon, Foot and Walker Pass at Blair Valley, Mason Valley, and up Oriflamme Canyon to connect with the main trail at Chariot Canyon (another PCT cross point).
Steve - ah, got it! I read that wrong, haha. I’ll have to check that trail out, that’s a new one for me. So many trails, so little time 😅
The greenery is just amazing. Unusual. Looking forward to seeing you return.

You came charging out of the gate this year and your body isn’t complaining. Funny how it works out. When you’re doing a section hike everything works but attempting a through hike injuries are prevalent. Love your positive attitude. Especially after those sneaky mice got in.
Thank you! There were a combination of things that made this section hike feel better. Although I think did really well physically last year during my thru hike attempt, except for acid reflux from my diet. I now have over 2000 backpacking miles and 6 years under my belt and have learned to pace really well and take more strategic breaks, I had just completed the Lone Star Hiking Trail(152 miles) in April, I have been eating a higher protein diet which has really helped my recovery time, my attitude has changed a lot with each year as I gain confidence and experience, and I am focusing more on the positive things and not focusing on the aches and pains. I still have a bad knee and hip and an array of menopause symptoms, they will always be there and I am learning to work with what I have during this next chapter. It was nice to do the section hike and I learned even more in just these two weeks. I want to hike the rest of my life for as long as I can and am always evolving with each new adventure! 🌻🤗
So you’re planning on coming back next year?
I’ll update on my hiking plans after this series. Stay tuned! 😃🤗
1:47 Solanum xanti. This isn't on the plant lists done for this section, but I guess it should be. The one that is listed is Solanum parishii, but that has very narrow lance-shaped leaves. The spinach-like leaves give this one away. • 3:27 Bush Poppy (Dendromecon rigida). They're along the PCT all the way to Mount Shasta. • 3:32 Big Berry Manzanita (Arctostaphylos glauca), common in the Peninsular, Transverse, and Southern Coast mountain ranges. • 6:05 California Bluebells (Phacelia minor). But yeah... they're purple. • 6:14 California Chia (Salvia columbariae), an annual sage. • Ground Pink (Linanthus dianthiflorus). • 7:28 Purple Owl's Clover (Castilleja exserta ssp. exserta). • 12:35 Chaparral Yucca (Hesperoyucca whipplei). • 14:47 Brown Spined Prickly Pear (Opuntia phaeacantha). • 14:51 This is another section of the older California Riding and Hiking Trail. It joins the PCT on the left then heads north along the trail past the spring. It goes straight north to the Paradise Valley Cafe. • 15:06 That's Red Shanks behind you (Adenostoma sparsifolium), the only close relative of the ubiquitous Chamise. This section is characterized as "Red Shanks chaparral" habitat. • 16:00 Pink-bracted Manzanita (Arctostaphylos pringlei ssp drupacea). A beauty. At your camp site also. •
Oh wow! Thank you for the long list of ID’s and the other info you shared. I really appreciate that! 🌻🌳🌼
Beautiful, everything is just so beautiful, the views, the wildlife, the flora and let’s not forget about the cows. Super good timing on the weather, a little sad though that you had to spend the night with little mice, I’m sure they appreciated being out of the weather. So, nearing the end of this adventure and on to the next. Love it. Thank you. 🙏🏻🥰
Thank you Anita 💞 Those little boogers…I refused to let the mice ruin my trip so glad I did the work to rid of them. It worked!! I had my truck inspected too and luckily no damage other than chewing on my insulation to nest. Ugh! I do miss the trail already. I’ll be back! ⛰️🌼🌷🐄🌳🐀🐍🦎🐦⬛⛺️🌲
Sure enjoyed this section! Yes the mice/pack rats can do a lot of damage quickly. Here in the high desert of Calif we keep hoods up in garage & lights on in garage. That works for us. Glad you didn’t have wires chewed… that happened to my little Miata in Tucson overnight. Expensive repair 🙃 thanks again for beautiful views of your hikes!
I wanna see a rose boa sooooo bad! Not so much a rattle tho 😅
They are the most common snake species that I’ve encountered. Rattlers much less and that’s fine with me 😅
What time of year was this? Love the hat!
At the very beginning of July. I started at Chester on 6/27.
Stagecoach is also useful for the Borrego feeder trail of the California Riding and Hiking Trail, which skirts the hills to the east. That CRHT spur trail is part of the San Diego Trans County Trail. The main California Riding and Hiking Trail comes down to the highway a bit west of the PCT and Scissors Crossing then skirts the highway below the San Felipe Hills rather than climbing them. There are water sources on that route. It crisscrosses the PCT at Eagle Rock and goes right through Warner Springs.
That’s interesting, thank you! 😊
